Estates

The image of the land, the genuine expression of emotions and “naturality” can, themselves, communicate and introduce with immediacy the essence of a fruit of the soil, as wine is.
In this section, some of our main estates and the grapes we grow, both autochthonous (Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia nera, Verdeca, Aleatico, Malvasia bianca, Bianco di Alessano, Moscato e Susumaniello) and not (Montepulciano, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Pinot nero e bianco, Shiraz e Petit Verdot).
The colours and the shapes typical of vines and of centuries-old olive trees express the vital marriage of man’s acting and the respect for the land that we have been undertaking for centuries.
The growing area ( about 5000 hectares in’600) still stretched for more than 2000 hectares, until the ‘50s. Nowadays, though the size is still considerable, Leone de Castris represents 500 hectares, half of which planted at vineyards and the other rich in olive groves, wheat and pasture, throughout Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto provinces.
Ursi, Maiana, Don Nicoletta and Messere Andrea have belonged to the family for centuries, some for more recent times or others were among our properties for so many years, but not now. (Casa Purcara, Troili, Caretto, etc). Patrimonial divisions and the land reform, after the Second World War, reduced the estates’ area, but unification initiatives are in operation.
The grapes we buy are usually taken from the same firms and our technician constantly talk to theirs in order to have the same productive philosophy.
